archive SMS, MMS, Photo to Gmail
We’ve seen many people complaining the phone storage limitation. They have to delete SMS, MMS and photo to keep enough space for the phone. Most of these SMS, MMS conversations are really good memorys. It’s hard to decide which one to be deleted.
Now, you do not need to worry about this problem any more! We launched xarchive app to android market. xarchive is great app which can backup your SMS, MMS and photos to Gmail. All of these are stored under different labels (folders) in Gmail. So, before using this app, make sure you enable the IMAP service of your gmail account. The IMAP service can be found in the gmail-setting section.
Let’s take a look at xarchive.

Advanced Settings

After that, you can start backup process!

Now, check your gmail account. These conversations should be under SMS, MMS, PHOTO labels.
Enjoy and have fun!
Hi I’m from Singapore and will love to try this app but I can’t find it in the market.
Hi,
You can search xarchive. The link is market://search?q=pname:com.xmobileapp.xarchive
Hi, I’ve tried that and it can’t be found. I suspect it may be cause your app is only open to a particular market?
Hi,
I select all of the countries that android market supports. But I mention that Singapore is not in it. I am sorry. If you do need this app, let me now please.
Hi,
I’ve downloaded some apps off Android Market, so it does support Singapore. However, it might not be the case if it is a paid app. Is xarchive paid?
Thanks for your help!
Yes, it is a paid app.
Oh I see. It’s ok then. Hopefully paid apps will be made available in the Singapore Android Market soon!
This app is the first app I’ve paid for and it is completely worth it. One feature, that the other free solutions have (such as SMS Backup by Christof Studer, is to automatically mark the messages as READ on Gmail. I had to set up filters on my Gmail account to get this done automatically.
Hi,
I bought this app yesterday, and the download fails every time I try. I’m in France and your app is in the market, no problem with that. I’ve tried and re-tried, nothing to do, I have the message “échec du téléchargement”.
Thanks for your help.
Thanks for downloading our apps.
If you cannot download it at all, you have to consult the currier in France (T-mobile, I guess?).

Is it possible to automatically backup files other than messages and pictures? I have a lot of recorded notes that I would like to backup as well. If so, I will buy this immediately! If not, is there any chance of adding this soon?
Also, is it going to pop up notifications every time it sends something? And if so, is it possible to disable the notifications?
thanks for your suggestions. I will do that later
is there a reason why im getting triplicates in my email from the mms? i get 3 to 4 copies of my mms to gmail and i cant figure out why.
“One flaw in this backup application is with MMS messages. It will save the multimedia portion of the message but not the text.”
Has this issue been fixed yet?
Thanks.
No, not yet.
I am sorry about that.
I think that writing the gmail password in an thirdy-party application is very unsafe… why don’t you use the google authentication?
We do not collect any user information. Yes, it is a good idea to use google authentication. But it will make the UI process unfriendly.
I purchased this application today, I think it’s very useful. I started my initial backup of my SMS on gmail, only 25 as a test and everything worked fine. But clumsy me accidentally deleted that label from online. Well I started the back up again, and the app recreated the label for me, but it’s not backing up those first 25 messages. How can I get the app to back up those first set of messages?
Do you know how to install apk format app to your phone? If so, I can send you a copy directly.
Since you purchased this app within 24 hours, you can uninstall it and download/ install it again. Google refunds the first purchase.
Thanks,
@admin
Yes I do. I use it use that method when I can’t find a app on the market. can you email it to me? That would be great.
@admin
Right that’s why I came to your website because it’s been less the 24hrs and I didn’t want to be charged 2x’s just to reinstall an app.
Is it possible to get the .apk from you if I pay to you by PayPal?
Paid apps in not available in Norway yet.
yes, my paypal is topsbt@gmail.com. I will send you an copy once getting paid.
No google checkout in hk. How can i buy this App?
You can pay me by paypal (topsbt@gmail.com). I will email a copy of this App to you.
I love this product, but I have a question. My MMS messages are not always readable? I need all of these messages time and date stamped and with the text included in the message without it being a google doc or some other program that has to open to maybe view it. I need help! I need to be able to use these messages for court cases. Am I doing something wrong or is there anything that I can do to get this fixed?
There may be a bug for backing up MMS msgs. We are working on that. Sorry.
Great App. Could I make a few suggestions?
MMS
The MMs backup does not organise MMS like sms. It would be great if it did this. For example, “MMS from John” just like the “SMS from John”.
Also, some MMS are in gmail as being sent from me to me. This is wrong because they were from a friend. This friend’s SMS work fine though.
MMS and SMS – Thread Date and Time
The dates of threads are when they were backed up and NOT when the text messages where sent. This is despite the messages in the thread having the correct dates.
I presume you are using the K9 code. The thread dates are set to the
current time if no date is specified in the appendMessages() method called on the
folder. This is specified in the rfc3501 section-6.3.11.
Is there a proper method in the K9 mail code that implements the full append part of the IMAP specification? I had a quick search but could not find such a method.
There is a thread on this topic at: http://code.google.com/p/android-sms/issues/detail?id=66
Keep up the good stuff.
Thanks
A hack around the bad date implementation in the code is to use outlook as IMAP.
Then move all the sms emails out of ALL MAIL and onto locally stored folder.
The move them back to gmail and they should have the correct date for each thread.
Cheers
Needs a Mark as Read Option, Please!
Also I would love to have the option to set how many hours it should backup. like, 1h, 2h, 3h, 6h, 12h. and so on.
Would like to have an option to pick what folders to sync Photo’s from, and/or what folders to exclude?
Love this app, Thanks a bunch!
In addition to the excellent suggestions from SamA, would it be possible to have the application actually delete SMS/MMS messages ?
I’d really love to be able to set the app to delete all messages (SMS+MMS) older than x weeks. And for this to be run as part of each backup.
That is a good idea. But “deleting messages” is sort of out of the line. If a user just unintentionally click delete all SMS/MMS, that would be a disaster.
I don’t know if you have been looking at the comments in the android market, but alot of people are having problems with this because it is not compatible with Froyo. Is there a timeline for when this is going to get fixed along with the other bugs in the software?
Thanks, Marshall Simmons
I’ve just purchrased this app, set login and password for google but it says General communication error.. what’s wrong?
you can pay by paypal. Let me know if you are interested.
1. Enable IMAP in your gmail
2. Use WiFi connection instead of 3G
3. Reboot your phone.
Let me know if you have further questions. Thanks
edit: the error message is given just after logging.. like login and pwd were wrong.. but i’m sure they’re not
Done everything u suggested but still communication error.. Calculating->Logging in-> Error during backup: General communication error.
I set imap server google
username my mail without @gmail.com and password. IMAP active in gmail account and both 3g or wifi it gave me the error, even after rebooting device..
